How quality and output size work
The quality control changes lossy encoder settings. Lower settings often produce a smaller file but can soften edges, introduce blocks, or create halos around text.
WebP is the default output. You can choose JPG instead; JPG fills transparent areas with white because the format does not support transparency.
The result is a new downloadable file. Compare it with the source at normal viewing size and at 100% before deciding whether the trade-off is acceptable.
Limitations
- No fixed percentage reduction is guaranteed; photographs, screenshots, flat graphics, and already-compressed files behave differently.
- The current compressor does not promise lossless output, metadata preservation, animation preservation, or exact color-profile preservation.
- Browser decoding and available device memory limit the images that can be processed successfully.
Frequently asked questions
Is the compressed image lossless?
No lossless guarantee is made. The current WebP and JPG output controls use quality-based encoding, so inspect the result for visible change.
How much smaller will my image become?
There is no reliable fixed percentage. The result depends on image detail, dimensions, source format, previous compression, output format, and quality setting.
Which output is better, WebP or JPG?
WebP is often useful for web delivery and can retain transparency where supported. JPG is broadly compatible for photographs but cannot keep transparency.
How do I keep text from becoming blurry?
Start with a high quality setting, compare at 100%, and avoid shrinking dimensions unless needed. Text-heavy screenshots usually show artifacts sooner than photos.
Does Lalabb upload the image?
The selected image is decoded and encoded in your browser without a Lalabb conversion-server upload for this tool.
Will transparent PNG areas stay transparent?
They can remain transparent in a WebP result when the browser encoder supports it. JPG output replaces transparency with white.
Does compression change the pixel dimensions?
The normal compressor path keeps the original dimensions. The dedicated Image Resizer is the clearer choice when dimensions also need to change.
Should I replace my original with the compressed copy?
Keep the original or a high-quality master. Use the compressed result as a delivery copy after checking text, edges, gradients, and transparency.
